Mrs. Eldred

Guidance Counselor

Eldred Photo

Mrs. Eldred enjoys building relationships with students so she can better assist them.  “As a counselor, my main objective is to get to know the students and develop relationships with them.  Hopefully, in addition to the teachers and administrators, I can be a source of support for them,” she says.  Mrs. Eldred provides individual guidance to students needing assistance with a variety of issues.  All new students meet with Mrs. Eldred to ensure a smooth transition to St. Hilary School.

Working in a Catholic school, where faith is part of the lives of the students, is important to Mrs. Eldred.  “I think it is wonderful that, as a community, St. Hilary focuses on service to others and doing the work of God.  This is what sets St. Hilary apart from other schools,” she says.

Mrs. Eldred says she loves being in a school setting and working with students.  She enjoys the excitement that each school year brings, with new groups of students and fresh experiences and opportunities.  New to the Akron area and newly married, Mrs. Eldred previously lived and worked in Boston.  She holds a bachelor of arts degree in communication arts from Villanova University, as well as a master of arts degree in counseling psychology from Boston College.  She is certified as a school counselor for grades 5-12.  Mrs. Eldred enjoys working out, reading, watching college football and basketball games, and going to the beach.

Mrs. Burley

Speech and Language Therapist

Since 1981, Mrs. Burley has been helping St. Hilary School students become “confident communicators”. In her capacity as the school’s speech and language therapist, she enjoys working with students to help them succeed in school and in life. She is pleased that most of her students feel comfortable with her. “Sometimes kids are self-conscious because of their speech and language problems. I talk with them and try to build their self esteem,” she says.

While she mainly works with primary grade students, Mrs. Burley says one student stands out in her mind because she worked with him from kindergarten all the way through eighth grade. He is now a successful college student. “I love to see the progress of the kids over time, and hear their success stories,” Mrs. Burley says.

Mrs. Burley enjoys working with youngsters because their enthusiasm makes them open to just about anything. The fact that they are willing to try different things makes her job in assisting them much easier.

St. Hilary offers a unique environment, according to Mrs. Burley. She feels it is a “tremendous community of people”, in which everyone is very approachable and supportive. “I have had many good experiences here,” she says.

A graduate of Bowling Green State University, Mrs. Burley holds a bachelor of science degree in education, is licensed in speech/language pathology, and is a member of the Ohio Speech/Language Association. The mother of three grown sons, two of whom are mentally challenged, Mrs. Burley can sympathize with the issues faced by the students she helps and their families. Mrs. Burley enjoys knitting, crocheting and working word puzzles.
