Eighth Grade Teacher

“I love the creativity and satisfaction derived from planning math lessons from which youth can learn, and then observing the light bulbs click on as they master skills,” says St. Hilary School eighth grade teacher Mrs. Marshall.  In addition to teaching eighth grade homeroom subjects, Mrs. Marshall teaches seventh and eighth grade math.   She loves modeling her infinite desire to learn, which she hopes will inspire her students to become life-long learners.  She also says teaching junior high students keeps her young at heart.

While junior high math includes an introduction to all strands of math, Mrs. Marshall says Algebra I is her favorite area to teach.  Because seventh and eighth grade math is the bridge to all higher level math, she says it is her duty to provide her students the skills and confidence needed to excel in high school math.

The ability to share her belief in God with her students through daily prayer, conversation and weekly school masses are important to Mrs. Marshall.  She believes disciplined students who are eager to learn, their supportive parents, and a caring faculty and staff set St. Hilary School apart from others.  She also loves the availability of technology at the school, particularly SmartBoards and laptop computers.

Mrs. Marshall and her husband relocated to Ohio from Charleston, SC.  She has two adult children and one adult step-child, scattered among three states.  An avid runner, Mrs. Marshall also enjoys her two dogs, one of which is a trained pet therapy dog and accompanies her on weekly visits to the Cleveland Clinic.  Mrs. Marshall also enjoys yoga, Pilates, skiing, and beach vacations, and is learning to play golf.  A teacher for nearly 20 years, Mrs. Marshall received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting from the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, with 30 additional credits in math.  She is a certified teacher in five states.

Miss Modzelewski
Eighth Grade Teacher

St. Hilary School Eighth Grade Teacher Miss Modzelewski truly enjoys being with and growing with her students.  Hands-on activities that let students have fun and take an active role in their learning experience make her classroom come alive.  “I enjoy seeing that the students are learning something new and understanding the material I taught them,” she says.  Miss Modzelewski’s favorite subject to teach is science, especially lab activities.

Centering education around faith and teaching morals and values are key components of a St. Hilary education, says Miss Modzelewski.  She also credits the involvement of parents and the parish community with setting the St. Hilary educational experience apart from that offered by other schools.  Miss Modzelewski further notes that the faculty is exceptionally caring and helpful.

A sports fan who particularly enjoys supporting Cleveland teams, Miss Modzelewski participates in a bowling league and likes to swim.  She also enjoys being outdoors and spending time with her family.  Miss Modzelewski holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Education from the University of Akron.

Mrs. Spinner

Eighth Grade Teacher

A St. Hilary School eighth grade teacher since 2003, Mrs. Spinner loves interacting with kids, especially one-on-one. “Their enthusiasm is contagious,” she says. In addition to teaching eighth grade homeroom subjects, Mrs. Spinner teaches eighth grade religion and seventh grade literature.

Being a member of the parish has special meaning for Mrs. Spinner, who enjoys watching her students grow from their baptisms through their final years at St. Hilary, and beyond. She believes the presence of the Catholic faith in everything at St. Hilary is important, and says it is amazing how spiritual her students are. “It is really great to know they have such meaningful prayer lives,” says Mrs. Spinner. She enjoys being able to relate back to the Catholic faith in all subject areas.

Mrs. Spinner says she feels privileged to be part of her students’ Confirmation experience. “It brings me to tears to see them sealed with the Holy Spirit,” she says. Mrs. Spinner enjoys watching her students grow into young adults, and is pleased to be part of their eighth grade graduation, as well.

A graduate of Ashland University and Kent State University, Mrs. Spinner holds a bachelor of arts in radio and television, and a master of arts in teaching. Married with three children, two of whom attend St. Hilary and one of whom attends Catholic high school, Mrs. Spinner enjoys attending her children's sporting events, reading and walking her dog.
