First Day August 23

Sunday, August 1, 2021

The first day of school will be August 23.  Please click here for the 2020-2021 KINDERGARTEN OPENING SCHEDULE.

ARRIVAL:

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES DUE TO COVID-19:

Our arrival bell rings at 8:20 a.m. and our tardy bell rings at 8:30 a.m.  Students should not arrive prior to 8:00 a.m. unless they are attending the morning Latchkey program, as we cannot allow students to congregate outside the entrance, in the hallways, or in the Multi-Purpose Room prior to going to classrooms.  Students may report directly to classrooms beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Students in grades 1-8 will report to school at the normal time beginning on the first day.  Kindergarten students will report to school at the normal time beginning Monday, August 30, following the transition period outlined here:  FOR THE FIRST WEEK ONLY (August 23-27), Kindergarten students will report to school between 8:30 and 8:45 a.m.  Parents/caregivers will walk students to meet their teachers near the Jesus statue at the main entrance.  Teachers will have signs to identify themselves.  Parents/caregivers will not be permitted to enter the building, but may say goodbye and give hugs in this outdoor area.

Every student must have his/her temperature taken and symptoms assessed at home before leaving for school every morning, beginning on the first day.

Every student will have his/her temperature taken and symptoms assessed again at school upon arrival every morning, beginning on the first day.  Parents/caregivers will not be permitted to leave until students have been cleared to enter the building.

All students in every grade must wear a mask to enter the building.

Upon entry into the building, all students will report directly to homeroom classrooms.  For the first week only, Kindergarten teachers will walk Kindergarten students to classrooms as a socially distanced group.

LATCHKEY:

Latchkey will be in session beginning on the first day, but please note that kindergarten  students attending school only until noon must be picked up at that time.  Please click here for information about how to register for Latchkey and/or ask questions.  If your child attended Latchkey last year and is returning, please send a note on the first day of school indicating your child’s Latchkey schedule for the first week of school.  You will still need to complete a registration form.

HOT LUNCH:

Hot Lunch will be available beginning on the first day.  Online ordering at www.st-hilaryschool.org is open August 1-10.  Please see the Hot Lunch page on the school website for ordering instructions.  Milk will also be available on the first day for those who order it.  Milk for the first semester will be ordered during the first round of Hot Lunch ordering, August 1-10.  Those wishing to purchase milk must order it through the Hot Lunch ordering system even if no lunches are being ordered.  Only those students who have ordered and paid for milk through this system will appear on the classroom milk report to receive milk at lunchtime.  All others must bring a drink from home.

DISMISSAL:

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES DUE TO COVID-19:

In order to ensure social distancing during dismissal, we will follow a staggered dismissal schedule as follows:

2:50 pm - Kindergarten students and their siblings

Non-Kindergarten Families Alphabetically by Last Name:

2:55 pm - Last names S-Z

3:00 pm - Last names N-R

3:05 pm - Last names G-M

3:10 pm - Last names A-F

Students will not be released until their designated time, so it is important that you make every effort to arrive as close to that time as possible, rather than lining up far in advance.  We also ask for your cooperation in picking up your child on time, or calling the office in advance if you will be a few minutes late.  In addition, we ask that the family last name of students being picked up be prominently displayed in the passenger side window of each car to help us efficiently match students with cars.

If you prefer not to go through the car line, you may park in the far back parking lot and stand in the red “box” painted on the parking lot where you can safely reunite with your child.

All students in every grade must wear a mask to exit the building.

Students should go directly to car or bus – no loitering in hallways, restrooms, visiting other rooms.

Afternoon Latchkey will be available until 6:00 p.m.

BUSING:

Four districts provide bus transportation for our students who reside in those districts: Copley-Fairlawn, Highland, Revere, and Woodridge.  We anticipate that when the districts are providing in-person instruction and transportation for their own students, they will provide transportation for St. Hilary School students as well.  If any of these districts move to online learning at any time, there is the potential that bus transportation for St. Hilary School students who ride the affected district’s bus may be lost.  We encourage all families to have an alternate transportation plan in place as this could happen without warning. For more information, you may contact the transportation departments listed below:

Copley-Fairlawn:  330-664-4820
Highland:
330-239-1901, ext. 1235
Revere: 330-523-3118 or 3119
Woodridge 330-928-6312
