How do I register my child for school?

The general registration is held the first week of February. A student must be five years old before August 1 to register for kindergarten, and attendance at a screening is required. Registration during the school year requires that the parents have a personal interview with the principal or assistant principal and a tour of the school. New students entering grades 6-8 will also be interviewed by the principal or assistant principal. Application forms are to be completed and a registration fee (non-refundable after July 1) must accompany these forms. Copies of previous and current report cards and any standardized tests taken are also required. When a student is accepted, a letter is sent along with pertinent school information.

What criteria is used to determine admittance into the school?

1. Faithful and regular attendance at parish Sunday liturgy plus involvement in a parish ministry.
2. Financial support of the parish according to one's means.
3. Length of time a family has been registered in St. Hilary Parish.
4. Other siblings in school.
5. Child's readiness to start school.

After these criteria have been examined, children will be accepted into St. Hilary School in this order:
1. The family lives within the parish geographic boundaries as established by the Diocese of Cleveland.
2. The family lives outside parish boundaries, but are registered at St. Hilary.
3. The child is coming from a parish with no school. Full-cost tuition will be required.
4. The child is coming from a parish with a school. Full-cost tuition will be required.
5. Non-Catholic children will be accepted if there is room available. Full-cost tuition will be required.

What is the earliest time I can drop off my child for school?

School supervision begins at 8:00 a.m. If you need care before 8:00 a.m. or after school hours, please refer to our latchkey section of this website.

How would I be notified of a non-scheduled school closing?

Tune in to television Fox 8 and other school alert systems.

What is the procedure if my child needs medication during school?

When a student needs an over-the-counter or a prescription medication at school, a request for the administration of medication form must be completed by the doctor as well as the parent. This form is available in the school office or on this website. The medication, in the original container, must be brought to the clinic and picked up from the clinic by an adult.
