Ohio’s public school report cards were released on September 15. Shortly thereafter, the Diocese of Cleveland released data showing that Diocesan Catholic schools, including St. Hilary School, continue to outshine public schools in student proficiency. Click here to read more about this!
Here at St. Hilary School, there are many ways we continually strive to improve our school and raise the bar on expectations for the successes that set us apart. Today, we would like to share with you data specific to our school so you can see for yourselves just what that means.
We are proud to announce that St. Hilary School is once again in the top tier among schools in the Diocese of Cleveland based upon MAP testing scores for the 2024-2025 school year. As you know, we administer the standardized MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) Test to all students in grades K-8 each fall, winter and spring to assess student growth in the academic areas of math and reading. Starting last school year, grades 5 and 8 also take the MAP Test for the academic area of science. Science data is not available for comparison at this time. MAP scores are the most accurate means we have to compare student performance data with other schools.
More importantly, MAP scores are also a key tool we use to address gaps in student learning. We are committed to serving the needs of all students, and our total scores include the individual scores of every student in our school. In fact, our teachers are so committed to defining action steps to increase the achievement of each student in the lower percentiles and maintain the high achievement of each student in the top percentiles that they meet in grade level teams weekly to review data and collaborate.
In the tables below, you can see how St. Hilary School student performance stacks up against that of all Ohio public schools and all Catholic elementary schools in the Diocese of Cleveland in the subject areas of math and reading. Data is shown by grade level and subject area tested. Note that public schools do not report test data for students in grades K-2, so we are unable to share compared data for those grade levels.

We hope you find this news as exhilarating and powerful as we do!
In the meantime, we want to update you on a topic that was mentioned in Mrs. Woodman’s September Principal’s Message. She shared there that we were preparing to apply for what would be our third Blue Ribbon School award, an unprecedented honor among schools in the Diocese of Cleveland. Unfortunately, on September 12, it was announced that the Blue Ribbon Schools program has been discontinued at the national level. The understanding is that school recognition programs are better operated at the state level, and we await word as to what Ohio will do. We certainly plan to seek any opportunity to be recognized for the hard work and high achievement of our students and staff.
To qualify to apply for the Blue Ribbon School award, a school had to have standardized testing scores in the top tier among schools across the nation. Our spring 2025 MAP testing scores put us in the position of being able to cross that first hurdle to be able to apply for consideration to receive the award. Although the award recognition no longer exists, our scores stand as a testament to the academic excellence of our school and the success of our students. We plan to continue to strive for excellence in all we do, and we appreciate your ongoing support of our efforts.
We look forward to sharing our continued school-wide performance with you as more information becomes available.
